The Australians may have their fingers crossed as an old US satellite will be falling to earth today (23 September 2011) at some stage, in some place, hopefully not on someone.
Apparently it is the size of a bus which, at least, is a bit smaller than the old Skylab space station which fell to earth in 1979 and was the size of a house. In those days, it seems, there was not as much concern and hype about the debris hitting someone as there is today-life was much simpler.
Then, when bits of Skylab fell to earth over Western Australia, nobody was injured but the locals did send a bill for $400 to NASA for littering.
We like the thinking.
